3 - Greek Government Systems

| oligarchy | a government in which a small group of wealthy people hold power |
| tyranny | a government in which power is taken and the tyrant rules with total authority. |
| citizenship | membership in a community |
| democracy | a government in which the people have the power to rule |
| direct democracy | a government in which citizens participate directly in decision making and the day-today work of governing. |
| representative democracy | a government in which citizens elect leaders to represent their rights and interests in government |
| monarchy | a government in which a king or queen rules and then that power is inherited by family members |
| autocracy | a form of government in which one person has total power |
| anarchy | nobody is in control - no system of government is in control |
| polytheism | the belief in and/or practice of worshipping many gods |
| monotheism | the belief in and/or practice of worshipping one god |
| established religion | an official religion supported by the government |
| government | a group of people who have the power to make and enforce laws for a territory or country. |
