Conservation Equipment Safety Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| PPE | personal protective equipment |
| 3-Point Method | entering or exiting equipment with three points of contact at all times. Either 2 hands and one foot or 2 feet and one hand |
| Pinch Point | any point at which a pinch hazard could be present |
| Shoring | the process of bracing the walls of a trench to prevent collapse |
| Sloping | cutting the sides of the trench at an angle to prevent cave-in |
| Type A Soil | most stable soil type; maximum slope of 9 inches out for every 1 foot in depth |
| Type B Soil | maximum of a 45-degree slope; or 1 foot out for every 1 foot in depth |
| Type C Soil | most unstable soil type; maximum slope of 18 inches out for every 1 foot in depth |
