What is a basic tool for studying places on earth? Map
What is a geographer? A person who studies the earth.
How did early mapmakers discover land shapes? By sailing and exploring around them
What type of map represents the earth most correctly? A globe
What does a map key show? What the symbols on a map represent
What does a map scale do? Compares the distance on a map to a distance in the real world
What is a compass rose? a small design that indicates directions on a map
What does the Mercator Projection show? land correctly along the equator
What is the advantage of a flat map? shows more details than a globe
What does Goode's Interrupted Projection do? shows fairly accurate shapes and sizes of landmasses
What does a political map do? shows the man-made boundaries around countries
What is a historical map? a map that shows information about a place as it was in the past
What is a time zone? a region that shares the same time
What is the equator? an imaginary line of latitude that wraps around the center of the earth
What direction do lines of longitude run? north and south
What is another name for a line of longitude? a meridian
What is the prime meridian? the meridian labeled zero degrees
What are the seven continents? North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antartica
