| Term | Definition |

| Prejudice | opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. |
| Discrimination | the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things |
| Racism | the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. |
| Segregation | the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things or being set apart |
| Integration | the action or process of integrating. |
| Boycott | a punitive ban that forbids relations with certain groups, cooperation with a policy, or the handling of goods. |
| Civil disobedience | the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest. |
| Poverty | the state of being extremely poor |
| Medicare | national social insurance program |
| Medicaid | medical and health-related services for people with low income in the United States |
| Sit-in | a form of protest in which demonstrators occupy a place, refusing to leave until their demands are met |
| Feminist | a person who supports feminism |
| Interstate | existing or carried on between states |
| Hispanic | of or relating to Spain or to Spanish-speaking countries, especially those of Latin America. |
