| Iron Curtain | the notional barrier separating the former Soviet bloc and the West prior to the decline of communism that followed the political events of Europe in 1989 |

| Airlift | a system of transporting cargo or passengers by aircraft to or from an area otherwise impossible to reach |
| Cold War | a struggle over political differences (as of two nations) carried on by methods short of war and usually without breaking off diplomatic relations |

| Stalemate | a drawn or undecided contest |
| Closed Shop | a shop in which in which people are required to join a particular unions a precondition to employment and to remain union members as the duration of their employment |
| Subversion | the act of overthrowing : the state of being overthrown; especially : an attempt to overthrow or undermine a government or political system by persons working secretly within the country involved |
| Blacklist | a list of persons who are disapproved of and are to be punished (as by refusing them jobs) |
| perjury | an act of swearing to what one knows is untrue |
| Allege | to state as a fact but without proof |
| Demilitarized zone | A demilitarized zone, or DMZ, is an area in which treaties or agreements between nations, military powers or contending groups forbid military installations, activities or personnel |
