| gospel | the four accounts of Jesus' life, included in the New Testament of the Bible |
| pope | the title given to the bishop of Rome |
| icon | a representation of an object of worship |
| iconoclast | a person who destroys icons, or a person who criticizes traditional beliefs |
| excommunicate | to declare that a person or group is no longer a member of the church |
| schism | a separation or division from a church |
| monastery | a religious community |
