MUSCLES: DIRECTION OF MUSCLE FIBERS

rectus in a straight direction: straight e.g. rectus abdominis
oblique slanted
transversus in a crosswise direction
orbicularis orbicular; circular; of an orbit (e.g. orbicularis oris, the muscles encircling the mouth)
sphincter a ringlike or circular muscle that tightly constricts an opening of a passageway, closing the outlet (e.g. the anal sphincter)
