| Triple Allaince | milotary alliance between Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy in the years leading up to WWI |
| Triple Entende | Milotary alliance between Great Britian, France, and Russia in the years leading up to WWI |
| Schlieffen Plan | Germany's military plan where German troops would rapidly defeat France then attack Russia |
| Central Powers | The Central Powers were Germany, the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. These nations banded together, mostly out of national pride, and for revenge for previous losses |
| Allies | Great Britain, France, Russia and Italy. Italy initially had a treaty with Germany, but recanted and secretly allied with the Allied Powers. |
| Western Front | the region of northern France where the allies and central powers battled each other |
| Trench Warfare | a form of warfare where opposing armies fought from trenches dug in the ground |
| Eastern Front | In WWI the region along the German Russian border where russians and serbs battled germans, austrians, and turks |
