Columbian Exchange | Bartering or swapping between the Americas (the West) and the East.The East gave the West rice, oats, cabbage. The West gave the East potatoes, avocados, tobacco. The East gave the West horses, cattle, pigs, chickens. The horses helped the Natives hunt. |
Ferdinand Magellan | He discovered that the world was round. He was born in Portugal. |
Hernando Cortes | A Spanish explorer who's goal was to conquer others and find gold. |
Prince Henry | Prince of Portugal who wanted to prove that it was possible to get to Asia by a water route. He was called Henry the Navigator. |
Christopher Columbus | Italian see captain. He believed the world was round and had the idea to travel West to get to Asia in the East. He thought he made it to Asia by sea, but it was really the Bahamas. |
Bartolomeu Dias | He was the first European to sail around the southern tip of Africa. He named the tip of Africa the "Cape of Storms." |
Vasco da Gama | A Portuguese sea captain. He was the first European to reach Asia using a sea route. He did this in 1498 and made it to India. |

Amerigo Vespucci | A sea explorer that realized that Columbus didn't land in Asia. Europeans named the lands the Americas after him. |
conquistador | A Spanish conquerors who destroyed the Aztec civilization |
Francisco Pizarro | A Spanish conquistador who lead the soldiers that conquered the Incas. He lied. |
Tenochtitlan | The capital city of the Aztec civilization |
Juan Ponce de Leon | A Spanish explorer who discovered and named Florida. He was also the first governor of Puerto Rico. |
Northwest Passage | The idea that there was a water route through North America to Asia |
Henry Hudson | An English captain who was hired to find the Northwest Passage. He was unsuccessful. |
