Joints of the shoulder and other joint terms

sternoclavicular SC saddle joint between the end of the clavicle and sternum
acromioclavicular AC plane joint between the scapula and the clavicle
glenohumeral ball and socket joint of the humerus and the scapula
protraction moving the shoulder forward
retraction moving the shoulder backward
elevation raising the shoulder
depression lowering the shoulder
flexion angle of the joint is decreased
extension angle of the joint is increased
medial rotation turning toward the midline
lateral rotation turning away from the midline
abduction moving the arm away from the body
adduction moving the arm toward the body
circumduction moving the arm so the hand follows a circular path
