Muscle Fibre Types

Fibre TypeDescriptionExample
Slow Twitch Fibres (type I) relatively fatigue-resistant, low activation thresholds, long lasting, low intensity activities, endurance strength training daily activities, endurance strength training
Fast Twitch Fibres, Fatigue Resistant (type II A) contract more quickly and forcefully than slow twitch fibres, but fatigue more rapidly. Used for polonged and relatively high force output. middle distance events, strength training
Fast Twitch Fibres (type II B) short term energy supply provided anaerobically, high force production but fatigue quickly. sprinting, strength training (3 reps max)
