| Mortality Rate | Deaths per 1000 individuals per year |
| Infant Mortality Rate | The number of deaths of children less than 1 year old per 1000 live births |
| Maternal Mortality Rate | The number of maternal deaths during or right after per 100,000 women |
| Crude Birth Rate | The total number of live births per 1000 of a population each year |
| Crude Death Rate | The total number of deaths per 1000 individuals per year |
| Natural Increase Rate | The growth of a population brought about as births exceed deaths |
| Less Developed Countries | A non-industrialized or Third World country (poor) |
| More Developed Countries | Industrialized nations characterized by high per capita incomes, low birth and death rates, low population growth rates, and high levels of industrialization and urbanization |
