Life on the Arabian Peninsula

Desert Environment Plateaus,plains. It is hot, dry and harsh. It has sand dunes as well.
Desert Adaptations people adopted using camels for transportation, loose fitting, clothing for heat/ flies - they traded animal products -they put up tents,wool clothing from animals.
Oasis Environment occur in areas where water is trapped underground. The water causes plants to spring up. -vary in size, from a few acres to huge areas. -provide shade, water, food, and other plant life.
Oasis Adaptions -sometimes towns formed around it because people could actually live there. -Nomads became sedentary and they grew crops, like the date palm. -Using the things they grew farmers bartered with the nomads for things like camel hair, milk, and mear.
Coastal Plains Environment -the air is damp and moist, and rain falls regularly -it ends at a series of rocky cliffs -several dry riverbeds cut through the plains and periodically fill with water. -ranges between 5-40 miles inland.
Coastal Plains Adaptations -people built deep wells, dams, and systems to irrigate the land. -people traded with merchants from different places by caravan. Ex. India, East Africa -suitable for farming to grow crops like fruit -fragrant tree sap to make medicine. Ex.myrrh
Mountains Enivronment -rain and elevation Velo. keep temperatures in the mountain cool. -Arabia's mountains rise from 1,000 to 12,000 feet high. -moist winds from the Indian Ocean bring as much as 20 inches of rain each year. -winter,frost may form.
Mountains Adaptations -mountain dwellers lived in houses made of mud brick. -farmers constructed irrigation system/dams. -farmers grew crops like melon/pomegranate -they farmed on the terraces.
