Entente A non-binding agreement to follow common policies.
Militarism The glorification of the military.
Ultimatum A final set of demands.
Mobilize Prepare military forces for war.
No man's land. The land between two opposing armies that no man can cross without being shot at or bombed.
Zepplins Large gas filled balloons that are used to bomb enemy troops.
U-boats The German word for submarines.
Convoys Are groups of merchant ships protected by warships.
Total War The channeling of a nation's entire resources into the war effort.
Consription The draft the required all young men to be ready for military or other service.
Propaganda Is the spreading of ideas to promote a cause or to damage on opposing cause.
Atrocities Horrible acts committed against innocent people.
Self-determination The right of people to choose their own form of government.
Armistice An agreement to end fighting.
Pandemic Is the spread of a disease across a large area.
Reparations Payments for war damage.
Collective Security A system in which a group of nations act as one to preserve the peace of all.
Mandate The territories that were administered by Western Powers.
