| cuneiform | groups of lines and wedges; writing system used in Mesopotamia |
| monotheism | belief in one god |
| famine | a time when there is so little food that many people starve |
| exile | to force someone to live in another country |
| prophet | a religious person who speaks for God |
| Judaism | the Jewish religion |
| diaspora | the scattering of a people who have shared beliefs |
| caravan | group of travelers journeying together |
