Types of Maps

TermDefinition
Physical Map -shows the landforms of the region
Political Map -shows state & national borders -political divisions, political boundaries
Economic Map -shows economic activity of a region -GDP= gross domestic product
Resource Map -shows the natural resources of a region
Thematic Map -is used to show languages, religion, literacy rates, etc. -literacy rates= % of people in a country who can read & write
Climate Map -shows the rainfall, temperature, or climate classification
Topographic Map -uses contour lines spaced at regular intervals to show elevation -takes a flat map, & puts it in 3D, so you can see the elevation
Road Map -shows the major roads within a given area -not around much anymore, because a GPS is more up-to-date
