Shang Dynasty The Chinese dynasty that ruled the area around thee Hang He from 1700 to 1722
Zhou Dynasty A line of rulers in China from about 1045 to 256 B.C.E.
Qin Dynasty First centralized government of China; established by the first emperor Shihuangdi; responsible for beginning the Great Wall of China.
Han Dynasty The Chinese dynasty that ruled from about 206 B.C.E. to 220 C.E.
Mandate of Heaven A power or law believed to be granted by God.
Feudalism A system of government based on landowners and tenants.
Conficuios Chinese philosopher whose ideas and sayings were collected after his death and became the basis of a philosopher of a physical doctrine known as Confucianism.
Confucianism A Chinese philosophy that emphasizes proper behavior.
Daoism(Taoism) A Chinese philosophy that emphasize living in harmony with nature.
Yin and Yang One half of the Daoist concept of opposing forces of nature; the opposite of each other.
Shihuangdi Emperor of Quin Dynasty.
Legalism A Chinese philosophy that emphasizes strict obedience to laws.
Bureucray A form of government in which a few people rule many others.
Civil Serviant A person who works for a government
Meritocray A system in which advancement is based on individual ability or achievement and not on birth rights; rule bu officials of proven merit.
