reference maps shows location of the geographic areas
thematic maps maps or charts especially designed to show a particular theme connected with a specific geographic area
GPS electronically system that uses satellites to determine the position of a vehicle or person and tells location
GIS geographic information system integrates hardware, software and data for capturing, managing, analyzing and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information
distance scale a length scale that determines the precise distance and magnitude
directional indicator a compass that gives direct comparison and readings
inset map more detailed representation of a specific area on a map
legend a table on a map or chart used to explain the symbols
latitude distance north to south on the equator
longitude distance east to west on the equator
equator great circle of the earth that is equidistant from the north pole to the south pole
prime meridian the meridian running through Greenwich, England
northern hemisphere the hemisphere that is to the north of the equator
southern hemisphere the hemisphere that is to the south of the equator
eastern hemispshere the hemisphere that is Eurasia, Africa, and Australia
western hemispshere the hemisphere that includes North America and South America
continents any of the world main continuous expanses of land (AFRICA, AUSTRALIA, NORTH AMERICA, SOUTH AMERICA, EUROPE, ASIA, ANTARCTICA)
