TermDefinition
The practice of a country of adding more lands, establishing colonies, and controlling the colonies. Imperialism

A group that has a particular amount of importance in society. Social class
A type of ship that used either square or lateen sails to travel long distances. Caravel

A system in which traders exchanged goods for slaves, sold the slaves for products from plantations, and then sold the products in Europe. Triangular Trade
In the triangle trade system, the part in which enslaved peoples were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa to the Americas. Middle Passage
The belief that one person is better than another because of color or race. Racism
A Spanish adventurer who came to the Americas in search of gold. Conquistador
Resistance to a disease. Immunity
The movement of people, animals, plants, diseases, and ideas between Europe and the Americas in the 1400s and 1500s. Columbian Exchange
A system in which Native Americans had to work for European colonists and accept their religion. Encomienda
Separation from others. Isolation
Traveling in search of geographic or scientific information. Exploration
