| GPS | Global Positioning System |
| GIS | Geographic information system,designed to capture,store,manipulate, and analyze geo. date |
| Distance Scale | a ratio which compares a measurement on a map to the actual distance between locations identified on the map |
| directional indicator | North,South,East ,and West |
| Inset map | A small map set within a larger map. An inset map might show a detailed part of the map at a larger scale, or the extent of the existing map drawn at a smaller scale within the context of a larger area. |
| Legend | A key to what the symbols or pictures in a map mean. |
| Latitude(parallel) | Imaginary lines that cross the surface of the Earth parallel to the Equator, measuring how far north or south of the Equator a place is located. A measure of distance north or south of the equator. |
| longitude | maginary lines that cross the surface of the Earth, running from north to south, measuring how far east or west of the prime meridian a place is located. |
| equator | An imaginary circle around the Earth halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole; the largest circumference of the Earth. |
