| castle | a fortified, usually walled residence, as of a prince or nobble in feudal times |
| hegemony | leadership or predominant influence excerdcised by one nation over others, as in confederation |
| economic | the science that deals with the production, distribution, and consumption of goods or services, or the material welfare of humankind |
| political | of or relating to the government or public affairs of a country |
| cultural | of or relating to the ideas, customs, and social, behaviors of a society |
| social | or or relating to society or its organization |
| technology | the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry |
| urbanization | the act or fact of urbanizating or taking on the characteristics of a city |
| pastoral | used for or related to the keeping or grazing of sheep or cattle |
| diffusion | spread of cultural items-ideas, styles, religions, technologies, languages, etc. |
| imperialism | the policy of extending the rule of an empire or nation over foreign countries or the aquiring and holding colonies |
| aristocracy | a form of government in which power is in the hands of a small, priviledged ruling class |
| empire | a group of nations or peoples ruled over by an emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government |
| patriarchal | of or pertaining to a patriarch, the male head of a family, tribe, community, church, order, etc. |
| feudalism | the political, military, and social system, in the Middle Ages, based on the holding of lands in fief or fee and on the resulting relations between lord and vassal |
| bureaucracy | a system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials rather than elected representatives |
| demography | the science of vital and social statistics, as of the births, deaths, diseases, marriages, etc. of a population |
| city-state | a sovereign state consisting of an automous city with its dependancies |
| military | of, for, or pertaing to the army or armed forces often as distinguished from the navy |
