How did the Vietnam War end? stalemate and Vietnam united as a communist country
How did the Korean War end? cease fire because both sides came to the 38th parallel and decided to stop fighting temporarily.
What happened to Korea at the end of the war? it divided into two countries. North K- communist and South K- democratic
Which event led to the beginning of the Korean War? N. Korea crossed over the 38th parallel into S. Korea.
Which event led to the beginning of the Vietnam War? N. Vietnam crossed over and invaded South Vietnam.
Why did the US enter the Vietnam War when the French pulled out and stopped fighting? the US feared that if Vietnam became communist then many more nations would become communist and it would affect our way of life in the US.
What is the theory called when countries (mainly the US) were trying to keep one of the Southern Asian countries from becoming communist because many countries were already communists. They thought this would stop the spread of communism. Domino Theory
Basically, why did the US enter the Korean and Vietnam War? to stop the spread of communism
What were the Chinese protesting at Tiananmen Square? their lack of freedoms under communists rule. They wanted freedom from communism
What effect did Tiananmen Square have on the Chinese people? many were killed, but the international media helped the world know what was going on and eventually China had to back off and give the people more rights.
What caused the US to enter WWII? the bombing of Pearl Harbor
At the end of WWII, the US-Japanese Mutual Security Act was established. This states what? the US won't bomb without warning Japan
After WWII, the US occupation helped Japan rebuild. Gen. McArthur helped Japan establish a constitutional monarchy, shut down weapon factories and disbanded the army, and held a trial for everyone who was responsible for bombing Pearl Harbor. He did not- help Japan establish a market economy
Which leader introduced communism to China? Mao Zedong
Mao Zedong tried several reforms in China. ONe of his economic reforms was to use people to work on collective farms and steel mills. This was called- The Great Leap Forward
The time period when Mao Zedong removed most Chinese leaders that disagreed with his view of communism was called The Cultural Revolution
What effect did the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution have on the people of China? they began to distrust Mao Zedong
What two countries were threatened by the Domino Theory of Communism? Vietnam and Korea
From which country did India gain it's independence? Great Britain
Who was the leader of India's Independence Movement? Mohandis Gandhi
Who was the leader of Vietnam's Independence Movement? Ho Chi Minh
What was the name of the guerrilla warfare group that was created by Ho Chi Minh to defeat the US? Viet Cong
How was the independence movement in India different from that of Vietnam? India had nonviolent protests and no war. Vietnam was fought after in a brutal war
