What happened to the Archduke of Austria-Hungary? Shot three times and killed by Princip, a black hand terrorist.
Why did other countries get involved in the fight between Serbia and Austria-Hungary? They were in alliances with one another.
They were in alliances with one another. Machine guns, rapid fire artillery, tear gas which caused blindness, chlorine gas which caused suffocation, and mustard gas which caused blindness, blisters and loss of breath.
What impact did the new weapons have on WWI? More blood and death. Some people could not be gotten to and saved therefore they died, rats were attracted to the dead bodies which were not good for living soldiers sleeping in trenches.
What were some dangers of trench welfare? Heavy rain, trench foot, small dog sized rats in the trenches, air battles sending bullets and shells falling to the ground killing soldiers.
Why did Russia leave WWI? Russia had no interest in making the same mistake as Czar. They agreed to a "separate peace" with Germany, leaving the war in February.
How did Russia leaving impact the rest of the war? Germany could now move soldiers to the Western Front. Russia lost a great deal of Germany land. Less help caused Germany to fail and have to abide by The Treaty of Versailles.
Who won WWI? The Allied Forces.
What happened to Germany as a result of the Treat of Versailles? Germany was limited to a small army, forbidden to build large ships, had to pay Great Britain and France for damage caused by the war. Also forced to borrow money from American to pay war debt.
Who was Adolf Hitler? A man who attempted to overthrow the German Government and soon did become the dictator.
What did Adolf Hitler believe? He believed that Jews were to blame for Germany's problems.
When in power what did Adolf Hitler do? In power he acted against those who opposed their rule, outlawed other political parties, and often murdered those who opposed the new regrime.
Who was exterminated during the Holocaust and why? Jews, Slavs, Roma people, homosexuals, mentally handicap, etc. Because they didn't fit Hitler's view of the perfect Aryan German race.
Describe the concentration camps. Death camps with gas chambers for mass killing. Forced to dig their own graves sometimes then be buried alive or shot. Usually worked to death, starved, and died due to lack of medical care.
Why did Japan want to expand? They believed it was their destiny to liberate the people of Asia from European control.
Where was Japan expanding? Expanded into Korea.
Why did Japan attack the U.S. Pearl Harbor? Japan believed they could destroy American's ability to contain their empire in Asia by destroying the naval ship in Pearl Harbor.
Who were the Allied Forces? U.S., Great Britain, France, and Soviet Union.
Who were the Axis Powers? Germany, Japan and Italy.
How many people died in WWII? More than 50 million died in WWI.
What two countries emerged as the top two superpowers after WWII? United States and Soviet Union.
Why was the country of Israel created in 1948? So that Jewish had their own homeland and nation. Also so Arabs wouldn't be upset at Jews and looking at them as immigrants on Arab land.
