Famine Prolonged period of food shortage caused by social or natural forces.
GDP Market value of all officially recognized goods + services produced within a country and a given period of time.
Generational poverty form of entrenched poverty, which can encompass multiple generations of a family.
HDI Composite Statistic used to rank countries in terms of their level of living conditions.
Hunger Craving, pain or physical deterioration due to the body’s unsatisfied need for food.
Infrastructure The basic organizational structures needed for the operations of society.
Malabsorption The body is unable to use the nutrients from the foods taken in.
Malnutrition The body is deprived of the nutrients necessary for good health.
Situational poverty period of poverty caused by current circumstances factors such as: divorce, death of a spouse, unexpected health expenses, and the loss of a job.
Social Classes Systems in society that are used to categorize individuals based upon socioeconomic status.
Starvation Extreme weakness or death caused by a lack of food.
Undernourishment Consuming an inadequate amount of calories and proteins.
