Zionism The belief that jews deseverd to return to their homeland in Zion, promised by God in their scriptures.
Anti-Semitism A strong hatred of jews to the extent of killing them.
Holocaust The murder of millions of European Jews during WW11
Colonization Land owned by another country (ex. Israel)
Civil War A war between two groups in the same country.China Capitalist versus Communist.
Ottoman Empire On the losing side of WW1, with Germany and Italy.Shrunk in size because the government could not keep control of so much land. Eventually became the Middle East.
Nationalism Loyalty to a group with whom one shares a common history,cultur, and/or religon.
Independence Political and personal freedoms in a country where the governement doesnt nopt have all the power and the people have some.
Chang Kai Chek Leader of the Chinese nationalist Party.
Mao Zedong The leader of Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Kumintang Nationalist pary of China,led by Chang Kai Chek,before the Communist party was created .Ran CCP into the mountains and soon lost all power over China to Communism.
Communism The government has all control of the goverment,society,economy,etc.
Great leap Forward Mao Zedong's plan to reorganize china along Communist lines Collective farm and factory ownership increase agriculture and steel industry production.
Cultural Revolution The period of time when Mao Zedong tried to eliminate any thing the criticized the government. Make war opn anything encouraging class difference.Red Gaurd,Little Red Book.
Tiannamen Square In 1989 students protested in Tiananmen Square in Beijing for greater political freedom and were attcked by Chinese troops, many were killed or arrested.
