Development A process of improvement in the material comditions of people through diffusion of knowledge and technology
Fair trade alternative to international trade that emphasizes small buissness and products that protect workers and buissness in LDC
Foreign direct investments investments made by a forgein company in the economy of another country
Gender impowerment Measure compares the ability of women and men to participate in economic and political practices
Gender-Related Development Index compares the level of development of women compared both sexes
Gross domestic product the value of the total output of goods and services producted in a country in a given time period
Human development index indicator of level of development for each country constructed by the united nations combining economy and social indicators
Less Developed country A country that is at relatively early stage of development
Literacy rate the percentage of people who can read and write
More developed country A country that has progressed relatively far along in development
Primary sector The portion of the economy concerned with agriculture
productivity the value of a product compared to the amount of labor needed to make it
Secoundary Sector the portion of jobs having to do with manafacturing
Strucatl adjusment program a program encouraging national trade
Tertiary sector portion of jobs having to do with service
transnational corporation a company that sells products in many diffrent countries
value added the gross value of the product minus the cost of raw materials and energy
