When did the French and Indian war finally end? In 1763
Who won the French and Indian War? The British (England)
Why was the British government in dept after the French and Indian War? They had spent so much money on weapons, ammo, and other supplies for war. Plus, during the war, they had sent soldiers to protect the Thirteen Colonies
Who was Chief Pontiac? The leader in the war against the colonies
What was Pontiac's War? This was the result of the Indians invading the colonists in the Ohio River Valley. But soon the British sent help to the colonies and fought off the Indians
Who was George Grenville? The Prime-Minister of England that had a 4-step plan to try to fix the problems with the Colonies
What was the Proclamation of 1763? This said that no colonists could settle in the Ohio River Valley. He hoped this would ease tensions between Pioneers and Indians
What were the Navigation Acts? This ended smuggling and raised profits for manufacturers and English traders. Also no more taxes would be collected
What was the Sugar Act? This placed taxes on sugar and molasses imported from the West Indies and merchants. Additional taxes were also placed on imported wine, coffee, silk, and linen. More things like Iron, hydes, and potash could only be exported to England.
What was the Stamp Act? In 1765, this made colonists buy stamps from only the British, and made them place the stamps on all paper related products and more
Who were the Sons of Liberty? Angry mobs of men who marched through cities burning stamps, and destroying things
What was the boycott? In this boycott, the colonists refused to buy British goods
What did Parliament do in reaction to this boycott? They replealed the Stamp Act
What were the Townshend Acts? This forced duties on lead, painters color, glass, paper, and tea
What did the second boycott do? This made Britain's colonial trade drop by 40%
What was the Boston Massacre? In 1770, a crowd of people called the British soldiers names and stoned them, and the soldiers eventually opened fire on the crowd killing 5
What happened in reaction to the Boston Massacre? The Townshend Acts were repealed
What was the Tea Act? This stopped ships from the British East Company from taking tea directly to the colonies, but first paying high taxes in England
What did the colonists do in result of the Tea Act? 60 members of the Sons of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians dumped 342 chests of Tea into the Boston Harbor (The Boston Tea Party)
How did King George III Punish the colonies for the Boston Tea party? He enforced the Intolerable Acts
What were the Intolerable Acts? These were a series of very harsh laws to humiliate colonists
What things were included in the Intolerable Acts?(1&2) 1)Boston Harbor would remain closed until the colonists payed them back for all the Tea they wasted 2)Citizens of Massachusetts couldn't hold town meetings without the approval of the governor Thomas Gage
