Bantu The speakers of a related group of languages, who, beginning about 2,000 years ago, migrated from West Africa to South Africa.
Lineage The decent from a common ancestor.
Stateless Society Cultural groups in which authority is shared by lineages of equal power instead of being exercised by a centralized government.
Patrilineal Relating to a social system in which family descent and inheritance rights are traced through the father.
Matrilineal Relating to a social system in which family descent and inheritance rights are traced through the mother.
Mansa Musa The ruler after Sundiata— Was Muslim.
Sundiata Mali's first great leader
Ibn Battuta A traveler and historian.
Swahili A language that is Arabic and Bantu blended together.
