| Acid rain | Poisonous downpours that have killed forest in both North America and Europe |
| Greenhouse effect | Gases that trap solar energy in the form of heat |
| Chlorofluorocarbons | The gases in aerosols, air conditioning, and foam packaging |
| Ozone layer | A layer in the atmosphere that absorbs the cancer-causing ultraviolet radiation. |
| Ozone hole | The depleting or weakening of the ozone layer over Antarctica |
| Slums | The poverty stricken of a city |
| Green Revolution | A solution to feeding the world's population |
| Subsistence farmers | Farmers that grow enough food to meet their needs |
