| archipelago | A chain or cluster of islands. |
| deforestation | Is the removal of a forrest or stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to a non-forrest use. |
| terraced farming | A piece of sloped plane that has been cut into a series of successively receding flat surfaces or platforms, which resemble steps, for the purposes of more effective farming. |
| slash and burn agriculture | Is an agricultural technique which involves cutting and burning of forests or woodlands to create fields. |
| bio-diversity | Is the degree of variation of life forms within a given species, ecosystem, biome, or an entire planet. Biodiversity is a measure of the health of ecosystems. |
| hieroglyphics | Writing consisting of hieroglyphs. Enigmatic or incomprehensible symbols or writing |
| conquistador | A conqueror, esp. one of the Spanish conquerors of Mexico and Peru in the 16th century |
| class system | Social classes are economic or cultural arrangements of groups in society. |
| push factors | A factor that leaves one with no choice but to leave one's current home (especially parental home), country, region; pushes people away from an area. |
| pull factors | The lure of another country, region; pulls people to that area. |
| colonialism | Is the establishment, exploitation, maintenance, acquisition and expansion of colonies in one territory by people from another territory. |
| exploitation | . The act of employing to the greatest possible advantage. 2. Utilization of another person or group for selfish purposes. |
| revolution | The overthrow of one government and its replacement with another. |
| cash crop | A crop grown for sale rather than for subsistence (eating to survive). |
| rapid urbanization | Is the physical growth of urban areas as a result of rural migration and even suburban concentration into cities, particularly the very largest ones. |
| interdependence | Is a relationship in which each member is mutually dependent on the others. |
| Isthmus | A narrow stip of land connecting two larger land areas, usually with water on either side. |
