Anti-Semitism Religious intolerance for Jewish people, which would cause many Jewish people to be segregated into Ghettos all over Europe during the late 19th century.
Capitalism An economic system that includes private or corporate ownership of businesses where their purpose is to earn a profit
Communism An economic system believing in public ownership of all business and property in order to create a classless society where all people are equal in terms of wealth and education
Fascism A one party dictatorship that controls every aspect of life but is NOT COMMUNIST
Humanitarianism A commitment to help other people
Imperialism One country dominating the political, economic, or cultural life of another country or region
Isolationism Foreign policy where a country chooses to stay out of world affairs
Mercantilism Economic system where the government controls trade and gains wealth through acquiring more and more gold and silver
Militarism Policy that glorifies war and views traditional warfare as romantic
Nationalism Extreme pride for one’s country or way of life, caused people in the 19th century to seek independence from empires
Nazism One party dictatorship that controls every aspect of life, is NOT COMMUNIST, and believes in religious intolerance of Jewish people
Social Darwinism Belief that non-Europeans were poor and “uncivilized” because they were not as fit or intelligent as Europeans.
Socialism Economic system that includes public ownership of businesses in order to ensure they run for the good of all people not just the owners
Totalitarianism A one party dictatorship that controls every aspect of life
Zionism The belief that Jewish people should be able to create their own state. This would eventually lead to the creation of Israel in their historical homeland of Palestine
