Antecubital Space the surface of the arm in front of the elbow
Anticoagulant a substance that inhibits blood clotting
Buffy Coat a thin, light colored layer of white blood cells & platelets that lies between a top layer of plasma & a bottom layer of red blood cells when an anticoagulant has been added to a blood specimen
Evacuted tube A closed glass or plastic tube that contains a premeasured vacuum
Hematoma a swelling or mass of coagulated blood caused by a break in a blood vessel
Hemoconcentration An increase in the concentration of the nonfilterable blood components
Hemolysis The breakdown of blood cells
osteochondritis inflammation of bone and cartilage
Osteomyelitis Inflammation of the bone due to the bcterial infection
Phlebotomist A health professional trained in the collection of blood specimens
Plasma A liquid part of the blood, consisting of clear, yellowish fuild that makes up approximately 55% of the total blood.
Serum Plasma from which the clotting factor fibrinogen has been removed
Venipuncture puncturing a vein
Venous reflux The backflow of blood into the patients vein
Venous Stasis the temporary cessation or slowing of the venous blood flow.
Phlebotomy Incision of a vein for the removal of the blood; the collection of blood.
