What major event led to a food surplus in Great Britain in the early 1700s? Agricultural revoloution
Which 3 major advancements took place during the Agricultural revolution? crop rotation, invention of farm machineary, improved mass breeding practice on livestock
This event in the mid 1700s marked the decline in the need for muscle power and increased the demand for machine power, thus creating factories. The Industrial Revolution
What are the three factors of production? Land, labor ,Capital
What was one of the farming machines that was produced from the Agricultural revolution? The seed drill
What was the enclosure movement? The buying of small farms by capitalists to create large farms.
Where did most of the farmers go during the Rural to urban migration? Most farmers moved away from their farms into cities.
What is the definition of land in terms of the factors of production? Resources ex. coal, waterways
What is the defintion of labor in terms of the factors of production? Individuals available for work
What is the definition of capital in terms of the factors of production? money available for investment
What is laissez faire? A type of government where the business owners are in control ( lazy government)
What was one result of the factories being built? skilled workers lost money, increase in pollution, crime, child labor..etc
what is mass production? making a large amount of the same product
What was the result of mass production? The items that were mass produced costed less money than the products made by skilled workers
What increased the standard of living during this time? The mass production of products
What industry decreased during the Industrial Revolution? The Cottage Industry
What was the reason that infant mortality deaths decreased? Food Surplus
What were some of the factory conditions during this time? dirty, snuffy, cramped, no windows, 13 hr shifts, child labor..etc
How long did children and women work on average a day? 12-13 hours
what does urbanization mean? the growth of cities
what are unions? group of workers who get together to fight for better wages, working conditions, and for the bosses to listen to them
what did the Combination laws do? made unions illegal
Who was payed the most money? men ,women or chilren. Men
where was the business district located? in the urban area.
How many windows did a tenement room have? 1
How many people stayed on average in a tenement room? 30-40 people
Who lived in the suburban areas? wealthy an middle class
What did the suburan area have that the urban area didnt? grass and trees
Name a positive result of this revolution The government earned money from the businesses
name a negative result of this revolution caused a great deal of pollution
