Identify similarities and differences between Constantinople and modern-day cities. S: Constantinople served as a link between both regions of this world. Chicago acts as a commercial and cultural link between the eastern and western parts of the country. D: However, not all big cities are in the center of the continent.
What role did the move of the capital to Constantinople play in the growth of the Byzantine Empire? Constantine was attracted to this site because it enabled him to control land and sea trade routes between Europe and Asia. Indeed, the city's location as a crossroad contributed greatly to its growth.
What cultures influenced the development of Constantinople? Constantinople's location between Europe and Asia helped create a culture that was influenced by both regions. The city's art and architecture combines European and Asian styles.
How was society structured in the Byzantine Empire? In what ways is that structure similar to and different from the structure of the society in which you live? Society was structured where the rich were very rich, and the poor were very poor; the government was set up in extremes. This is similar to where I live. While the rich are a presently large amount, the lower class does have the majority.
In what areas did The Byzantines make cultural contributions? The Byzantine Empire made many cultural contributions to literature, architecture, the arts, and learning.
How did Justinian differ from previous leaders of the Byzantine Empire? He was not the son of the preceding ruler. In fact, Justinian was born to peasant parents in 482.
Which areas did the Byzantine Empire rule over at its height? How did the empire's leaders acquire that territory? Italy, the Balkans, parts of Saudi Arabia, North Africa, and Asia Minor. This land was acquired through war, conquest, and a lot of money.
