What ended the empire of Ghana? The Almoravids were jealous and wanted the people of Ghana to practice their version of Islam
Who was the chief of the Malinke people and what was his nickname? Sundiata was the chief of the Malinke and his nickname was the Lion King.
What did Sundiata do that created the Mali empire? Sundiata conquered Njiene and re-established the salt-gold trade network. He established the city of Timbuktu.
Who was Mansa Musa and why was he famous Mansa Musa was king of Mali and he is famous because he had a pilgrimage where he brought 13 tons of gold with him.
What were the results of Mansa Musa's pilgrimage? The results were Europeans wanted to find the Mali empire and trade with them for their gold.
What brought an end to the Mali empire? The Berbers attacked the Mali and took over the city of Timbuktu. This was a blow to the trade network.
What empire did Sunni Ali found? Sunni Ali founded the Songhai empire.
What did Sunni Ali do to make an example of what would happen if you opposed him? Sunni Ali captured Timbuktu and killed all the Berbers.
Who was the next ruler of Songhai and what did he do? Askia Muhammad was the next ruler. He divided Songhai into provinces and had a standing army and Navy.
How did Songhai fall? Askia died and his sons were weak rulers. The army of Morocco raided and captured the cities.
Why did the people of Kongo settle near the river? The river had fertile soil, food(sea food), minerals and transportation.
What was an effect of the Kongo becoming more like Portugal. Portugal gains more power in Kongo
What was an effect of the Portuguese taking away citizens of Kongo. The Kongo broke away from the Portuguese.
What was an effect of Portugal helping the Kongo ? 11 million Africans are enslaved.
What is an effect of many countries enslaving Africa and sending them over to the colonies? The Trans-Atlantic Slave Network is created.
