What are the Natural Resources of Latin America? Gold,silver,copper, tin,bauxite,oil,natural gas, hydroelectric power due to rivers
What are the cash crops? Bananas, sugar, tobacco, coffee, rubber, lumber
What was the treaty of Tordesillas? Allowed Spain to claim most to the Americas -Interest was for gold and sea route to Asia.
What were the roles of the Colonies? Raw materials and market to sell goods.
What did Bartolome de las Casas do? Spoke out against treatment of the natives but caused the African Americans to be enslaved.

What was the Encomienda? The system in which a Spanish soldier or colonist was granted a tract of land or a village together with its Indian inhabitants.

What is mercantilism? An economy based on gold or money.
What is the balance of trade? the difference between the value of exports and imports.
What are subsidies? Government loan that helps support goods.

What were the Incan government and cities like? -Empire in fertile vally of Andes -Emperor owned everything -Officals told people where to live and what jobs to do. -Collected taxes or peasants' crops.
What were the Aztecs government and cities like? -City: tenochtitlan. -One ruler chosen by group of priests, nobles, and warriors -Defeated nation, left ruler in place but had to pay tributes.
