Chronic Bronchitis Tx antibiotics, bronchodialators, respiratory therapy
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) describes any chronic lung disease that results in the obstruction of the airway.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Examples chronic asthma, tuberculosis(TB), emphysema
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Cause Primary cause= smoking, additional causes allergies and chronic respiratory infections
Emphysema Description noninfectious, chronic respiratory condition that occurs when the walls of the alveoli deteriorate and lose their elasticity resulting in poor gas exchange.
Emphysema Cause smoking and prolonged exposure to air pollutants
Emphysema S & S dyspnea, feeling of suffocation, pain, barrel chest, chronic cough, cyanosis, rapid respiration
Emphysema TX No Cure! Treat symptoms
Emphysema PX Respiratory Failure and Death
Epistaxis Description Nosebleed
Epistaxis Cause blow to the nose, chronic infection, hypertension, hemophilia, leukemia, snorting drugs
Epistaxis TX elevate and tilt head slightly forward, apply cold compress
Influenza or Flu description Highly contagious, viral infection of the upper respiratory system.
Influenza or Flu S & S sudden onset, chills, fever, cough, sore throat, muscle pain, fatigue

Laryngitis description inflammation of the larynx and vocal cords
Laryngitis cause respiratory infection, stress/trauma

Laryngitis S & S hoarseness or loss of voice
Lung Cancer Description Leading cause of cancer death in both men and women, is preventable,
Lung Cancer Cause smoking, exposure to carcinogens
Lung Cancer Tx Surgical removal, radiation, chemotherapy
Lung Cancer S & S chronic cough, hemoptysis, dyspnea, fatigue, weight loss, chest pain
Pleurisy description inflammation of the pleura or membranes of the lung
Pleurisy S & S sharp, stabbing pain while breathing, crepitation, dyspnea, fever
Pleurisy Tx Medication for pain and inflammation, Thoracentesis(withdrawal of fluid through a needle)
Pneumonia description inflammation or infection of the lung characterized by exudate in the alveoli.
