Zyg- Persian War (Greece)

Predicting the outcome of the persian war-persia size and resource, unimportant to the soldiers, didnt have much reason to want to fight
predicting the outcome of the persian war- greece principles care more, they were defending their homeland, had more desire to win
Persian War- 2 perspectives-greek it was a turning point; they merged from being city states, into one big country, it was the first unification of the poliseis
Persian war- 2 perspectives- Persia there was an unimportant skirmish
What happened leading to the war? How/why did it begin? The greeks stopped giving texes to Persia, so persia invades because of the greeks revolt
Persian Empire Effectic: Why? There was a lot of ciltureal pluralism (political) and they made money which was accepted in a lot of places, so the trade flurished (economic), there was a hereditary monarchy, there was stability, which avoided fights of succession (also political)
Persian Empire Effectic: Why? Cont. There were satrapies, which were 20 different provinces (political) because of the safe long roads no one can rob your goods or money (economic, trade was flourishing)
Delian League It was made out of self defense towards the Persians,it required tributes and payments from the other city states subjected to rule over Persians so those who paid were defended. Athenians were the most damaged (and suffered most)in war. sparta questioned
Pericles He was elected leader of Athens (32 times), he brought in a golden age of prosperity, trade, literature, art, etc into the city, he brought in a direct democracy (Athenian males over 18; varying in class) fell in love with a prostittue (
Peloponnesian League Was created by Sparta committed to rebellion against the Delian League
Peloponnesian War they win
Hetaeraes a name for the prostitues, but they were the group of women who were most educated becuase the men belived that if they were going to be around women, the women should be educated
What was decided in the meetings, what was considered a direct democracy? you would go to the assembly and would vote (majority rules) ideas and discuss issues
how do you become a public official? lottery
what was valued? education...among mail citizens because elected by lottery, they had to be educated in order to be "fit for the job"
Melos Neutral in the peloponnessian war, ended up getting masacred or enslaved because they didnt want to take part in the war but they had no choice, so they were punished.. came from island of Melo.
