| Lord | A landowner during the Middle Ages |

| Vassal | The person receiving a fief, or land grant |
| Knight | Mounted horsemen that defended the lord’s land in exchange for fiefs |
| Serf | people who could not lawfully leave the place where they were born |
| Chivalry | A complex code followed by knights that demanded they fight for their earthly lord, heavenly Lord, and chosen lady. |
| Manor | The lord’s estate |
