The Gift of the Nile

The Nile is the world’s longest river.
It travels from the mountainous land south of Egypt through some of the driest deserts in the world.
More than seventy million people currently live along the banks of the Nile.
The history of the great river also includes the civilizations of ancient Egypt.
The Nile made the ancient Egyptian civilizations possible.
Melting snow from the mountains of East Africa flooded the banks of the Nile.
The silt created excellent topsoil that provided the Egyptians with two or three annual crops.
