Eightfold Path | Buddhist believe one should give up selfish desires and follow this path: have the right goals, ha ve the right perspectives, be aware, act in worthy manner, speak truthfully, live righteously, respect all living things, and meditate. |
Nirvana | By following the Eightfold Path, an individual can escape the soul's endless reincarnations and achieve this state, a state of eternal peace and bliss. |
Shinto | believe system that is based upon a great deal of animism. |
Hinduism | polytheistic religion, belief in reincarnation, belief in Karma and believes that the Ganges River is sacred. The cow is also considered sacred. |
Rome physical features | located on a fertile plain in the center of Italy, close to the west coast. To the north, the Alps Mountains protected Rome from most invaders. To the west, the sea provided further protection, while serving as a route for trade and expansion. |

feudalism | loosely organized system of government in which local lords governed their own lands but owed military service and other support to the greater lord. Rome was a contributer to this type of government. |

Confucianism | a philosophy/religion followed in China for centuries. Stresses kindness, peace, harmony and follwing the natural order. In all relationships there is a superior and inferior. A good ruler should govern justly and for the benefit of his subjects. |
