Democracy A government run by the people

Polis City-state.
Acropolis A walled high area surrounding a polis
Agora An open area that served as a meeting place and market in the early Greek city-states.

Alexander the great. The son of Phillip II. He created a huge area. the biggest anyone had ever seen.
Helots State slaves.
Hoplites Foot soldiers.
Hubris Great pride.
Direct Democracy in which all people vote directly on an issue.
Archon Served as the chief of state in Athens.
Phalanx A tight rectangle formation in which soldiers held long spears out ahead of a wall of sheilds.
Logic The process of making inferences.
reason Clear and ordered thinking.
Lyric poetry Named after a musical instrument called the lyre that was often played to accompany the reading of poems.
Homer A poet who made the famous poems Odyssey and Iliad.
Hereodotus The first major writer of history in greece
Thucydides A second major historian likewise lived in athens.
