Heart | A hollow musclar sytsem located in chest between lungs. It works as an affective pump and provides power to transport blood to the pulmonary and systematic circulatory system. |
Artery | Sends blood AWAY from the heart and transports blood to all body tissues. |
Capillarie | connection between arterys and veins and exchanges oxygen & carbon dioxide w/ cell tissue and nutrients & waste product with cells. |
Vein | Receves blood from all body tissues and waste products from body tissue. It also transports blood back to the heart |
Oxygenated Blood | Blood with oxygen |
Deoxygenated Blood | Blood without oxygen |
Pericardium | Double wall membrane sac that encloses the heart. |
Pericardial Fluid | Prevents friction when heart beats (lubricating fluid) and is found in the pericardium. |
Epicardium | External layer of the heart, also inner layer of the pericardial sac. |
Myocardium | Middle and thickest layer of the heart, consists of the cardiac muscle. |
Endocardium | Lining of the heart that forms the inner surface, it has direct contact with blood pumping through the heart. |
Atria | Two upper chambers of the heart, it recieves blood from all parts of body. All blood vessels enter heart through the atria. (deoxyginated blood) |
Ventricle | two lower chambers of the heart, the vessels leaving the heart emerge from them. The walls are thicker that atrial walls. |
