| Term | Definition |
| Cranium | Part of the skull that encloses the brain (8 bones) |
| Temporal | two fan-shaped bones, one on each side of the skull, in the temporal area above each ear. |
| Parietal | 2 bones on each side, make up the roof and sides covering the brain. |
| Frontal | Single bone in Frontal (makes up forehead) |
| Occipital | Thick bones, lower back of head that helps form the base od skull and has a large opening for the spinal cord |
| Ethmoid | Spongy bone, between eyes orbits |
| Sphenoid | Large bat bone at base of skull, between ethmoid and occipital. |
| Zygomatic | Facial bones under each eye (form cheekbone) Bones also called malar bones |
| Maxilla | Under each eye, unite the medial suture to form the upper haw that supports the maxillary teeth. |
| Palatine | Unite the medial palatine suture to form the hard palate and the nasal floor. |
| Nasal | Form the arch of the nose |
| Lacrimal | Inner side os nose side of the orbital cavity, make up the corner of the eyes where tear ducts are located |
| Inferior Concha | Form lower part of the interior of the nasal cavity |
| Mandible | Horseshoe shpaed, forms lower jaw |
| Vomer | Forms lower posterior part of the nasal septum and seprates the nose into 2 chambers. |
| Ossicles | small bones in the ear |
| Malleus | Largest ossicle, middle of the ear, usually called the ear mallet |
| incus | commonly called anvil |
| stapes | commonly called the stirrup |
| Hyoid | bones lying at the base of the tounge |
| Sinus | air pocket that lightens the bone, warms the air intake, helps form sounds, |
| Frontal (sinus) | Larger accessory sinus (above the eyes) |

| Sphenoid | multiple small sinuses located in the sphenoid bones behind the eyes |
| Maxillary | Located in the maxilla ,Largest sinus, landmark for identifying radiographs. |
| Suture | a line where 2 or more bones unite in an immovable joint (several in cranium) |
