| Spasm | sudden and involuntary muscular contraction |
| Colic | a spasm of the visceral muscles |
| Seizure | spams occurring in a series |
| Strain | overstretching of a muscle |
| Sprain | a stretching or tearing of ligaments |
| Atony | muscle has lost strength |
| Atrophy | muscle has wasted away |
| Hypertrophy | excessive enlargement of a muscle |
| Muscular dystrophy | deterioration of muscles that still have intact nerve function |
| Myasthenia gravis | chronic muscular fatigue |
| Myalgia | muscular pain |
| Pstosis | drooping upper eyelid |
| Myositis | inflammation of muscle tissue |
| Fibrositis | inflammation of connective tissue |
| Fibromyalgia syndrome | widespread muscle aches, tenderness, stiffness |
| Bursitis (student's elbow) | inflammation of the bursae |
| Olecranon bursitis | swelling, redness, and pain at the tip of the elbow |
| Ischial bursitis | is an inflammation of the fluid-filled sac, or bursa that lies between the ischial tuberosity (the lower part of the V-shaped bone that helps form the pelvis) and the tendon that attaches the hamstring muscle to the bone |
| Prepatellar bursitis | is an inflammation of the bursa in the front of the kneecap (patella). |
| Subdeltoid bursitis | is a common cause of shoulder pain that is usually related to shoulder impingement of your bursa between your rotator cuff tendons and bone (acromion). |
| Subacromial bursitis | is a condition caused by inflammation of the bursa that separates the superior surface of the supraspinatus tendon from the overlying coraco-acromial ligament, acromion, and coracoid (the acromial arch) and from the deep surface of the deltoid muscle. |
| Bunions | inflammation of the bursae of the toe. |
| Tendonitis | A condition in which the tissue connecting muscle to bone becomes inflamed. |
| Tenosynovitis | Inflammation of the tendon sheath where muscle connects to bone. |
| Shin-splints | Pain caused by overuse along the shinbone (tibia), the large front bone in the lower leg. |
| Carpal tunnel syndrome | A numbness and tingling in the hand and arm caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist. |
| Charley horse | A sudden, involuntary contraction of one or more muscles (cramp), often in the legs. |
| Torticollis (wry neck) | A rare condition in which the neck muscles contract, causing the head to twist to one side. |
| Multiple sclerosis | A disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves. |
