Costal Cartilage | The cartilage in the rib cage that connects the true ribs (1st 7 pairs) to the sternum |
True Ribs (vertebrosernal ribs) | The first 7 sets of ribbs in the rib cage. They are connected by the costal cartilage directly to the sternum |
Vertebrochondral Ribs | The first three pairs of false ribs. They are connected to the costal cartilage of the bottom true ribs by their own costal cartilage. |
Vertebral Ribs | The last 2 or some times 3 pairs of ribs. They have no costal cartilage connecting them to the sternum. |
