Ribs and Costal Cart

A stack about the ribcage and costal cartilage

Costal Cartilage The cartilage in the rib cage that connects the true ribs (1st 7 pairs) to the sternum
True Ribs (vertebrosernal ribs) The first 7 sets of ribbs in the rib cage. They are connected by the costal cartilage directly to the sternum
Vertebrochondral Ribs The first three pairs of false ribs. They are connected to the costal cartilage of the bottom true ribs by their own costal cartilage.
Vertebral Ribs The last 2 or some times 3 pairs of ribs. They have no costal cartilage connecting them to the sternum.
