sternocleidomastoid | connects the manubrium and clavicle, enters the skull through the temporal bone region |
trapezius | connects from the occipital bone and the lower thoracic vertebrae to the scapula |
deltoid | contracts anterior fibers of the humerus to rotate the arm |
biceps brachii | moves the elbow and the shoulder |
triceps brachii | attaches the elbow and the shoulder |
pectoralis major | felxion, adduction, and arm attachment to the trunk |
intercostals | between ribs, forms chest wall |
rectus abdominus | connects the pubic bone to the sternum |
latissmus dorsi | extension/adduction of the shoulder muscle |
gluteus maximus | coccyx, moves the hip and thighs |
sartorius | flex and rotate the thigh joint (illiac spine) |
quadriceps femoris | walking, running and jumping |
tibialis anterior | connects the lateral tibia to the medial cuneiform |
gastrocnemius | half of the calf muscle, flexs the foot and the leg |
theraputic exercise | retraining of injured or unused muscles |
muscle atrophy | shrink in size and lose muscle strength. can be caused by prolonged bed rest or immobilization of a limb |
muscle strain | overstretching or tearing of a muscle. (less serious than a sprain) |
muscle spasm | sustained contraction of the muscle |
myalgia | muscle pain |
fibromyalgia | 2nd most common condition affecting your bones and muscles |
dystonia | involuntary muscle movements that cause repetitive movements or abnormal postures |
torticollis | the muscles in the head cause the head to be pulled one way or another. |
blepharospasm | increased blinking |
craniofacial dystonia | afects muscles of the head, face, neck, jaw, lips, and tongue |
hernia | organs protrude through the abdominal wall (stomach pushes through diaphram) |
tetanus | infectious disease by continuous spams of voluntary muscles. Caused by bacterium that enter the body through a puncture wound |
muscular dystrophy | deterioration of muscle cells |
mysthenia gravis | loss of connection between nerves and muscles |
heel spur | calcium deposit in plantar fascia near attachment to calcaneous bone |
plantar fascittis | plantar fascia inflammation on the sole of the foot |
tennis elbow | inflammed tendon due to repetitive use and underconditioning |
shin splints | injury to muscle tendon (location- tibia) |
rotator cuff injury | inflammation in the group of tendons at the shoulder |
