Vedas | FOUR collections of sacred writings produced by the Aryans during their settlement in India |
Castes | One of the four classes of people (priests, warriors, peasants, and non-Aryan laborers or craftsmen) in the social system of the Aryans who settled in INDIA. |
Hinduism | Religion in INDIA thst believes in many Gods and Goddesses, reincarnation, and that a person's behavior in life determines his or her form/caste in the next life. |
Buddhism | A religion based on the idea of self-denial taught by Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha). Buddhists try to follow the four noble truths and the eight fold path. |
Monotheism | The belief in ONE God. |
Ten Commandments | A series of laws in the Jewish religion that prohibited stealing, murder, and other forms of immoral behavior. |
Judaism | A religion of the Hebrews that began in ISREAL and was led by Moses it is based on the concpets of monotheism, and following a moral code of conduct known as the Ten Commanments. |
Tribute | Peace money paid by a weaker nation to a stronger nation |
Satrap | A governor of a province who ruled locally in the Persian Empire |
Confucianism | Belief system established by Confucious, emphasizing traditional values such as obediance and order |
Filial Piety | A respect shown by children and the younger members of society for their parents and elders |
Bureaucracy | A system of departments and agencies formed to carry out the work or government |
Daoism | A PHILOSOPHY based on the ideas of Chinese thinker Laozi, who taught that people should be guided by a social order. |
Legalism | A Chinese philosophy based on the idea that a highly efficient and powerful government is the key to a social order! |
Autocracy | A government in which the ruler had UNLIMITED power and uses it in arbitrary manner |
Patriarchal | A social system in which a father is the complete head of the family and household |
Silk Roads | A system of ancient caravan routes across central Asia, along ehich traders carried silk and other expensive goods |
Centralized Government | When power is concentrated in a central government authority which local governments are subject to follow |
Civil Service | The administrative departments of a government, especially those in which employees are hired on the basis of their scores on examinations. |
Assimilation | The policy when a conquering nation forces or encourages the conquered people to adopt its culture, customs, and institutions. |
