Term | Definition |
Amblyopia | lazy eye. Occurs in early childhood. It results in poor vision in one eye and is caused by the dominance of the other eye. |
Astigmatism | Abnormal shape or curvature of the cornea that causes blurred vision. |
Cataract | Occurs when the normally clear lens becomes cloudy or opaque. |
Conjunctivitis | Pink eye, a contagious inflammation of the conjunctiva and is usually caused by a bacterium or virus. |
Glaucoma | Condition of increased intraocular pressure caused by an excess amount of aqueous humor. |
Hyperopia | Farsightedness. Occurs when the light rays are not refracted sharply enough and the image focuses behind the retina. |
Macular Degeneration | Major cause of vision loss and blindness, a disease of the macula, the central and most sensitive section of the retina. |
Myopia | Nearsightedness. Occurs when the light rays are refracted too sharply and the image focuses in front of the retina. |
Presbyopia | Farsightedness caused by a loss of lens elasticity. |
Strabismus | The eyes do not move or focus together. |
Night blindness | Condition that makes it difficult so see at nigh. The rod cells in the retina are affected. |
Color blindness | The inability to distinguish colors. |
Diplopia | Blurred vision. |
Optometrists | A person who practice optometry. |
Opticians | A person who gives you glasses. |
Opthamologist | A specialist with the study and treatment with disorders of the eye. |

What is the purpose of the Choroid coat? | Blood vessels nourish the eye. |
What is the purpose of the Retina? | Transmit impulses to optic nerve. |
What is attached to the outside of the sclera that is responsible for moving the eye within the socket? | Extrinsic Muscle |
What is the transparent circular part of the front of the eye and its purpose? | Cornea; controls the entrance of light. |
What is the difference between cones and rods? | Cone- color vision Rods- dark Dem light |

What is the aqueous humor? | clear watery fluid that fills the space between the cornea and iris. |
